Each Halloween, Bette Midler throws the most fantastic Hulaween party-of-the-year to benefit The New York Restoration Project the organization that Bette founded to promote a cleaner and greener New York. NYRP helps to restore, revitalize and develop under-resourced parks and community gardens throughout the city’s five boroughs. On Friday October 29, the celebration will honor Senator John Kerry and features a special performance by Paul Simon, a live auction by Judy Gold, costume judging by Michael Kors, and an after-party for the younger set that will rock the Waldorf til the wee hours! NYRP together with the City of New York, is a part of MillionTreeNYC initiative and we thought our Tree Nymph, a forest’s best friend, would be a fitting tribute. Simply slip on these feathered-fairy-wings over this bronzed Alice + Olivia dress and we swear you will feel sparkly and sprite-like. We love all these elfin-ish woodland inspired jewelry from this crown to these gilded leaf earrings, bracelet , log ring and beetle arm-cuff. Drape this artificial maple-garland around your neck and cover your body in this Sephora Sparkle till Dawn make-up set and glow-in-the-dark glitter! Complete your celestial costume with this Topshop bedazzled clutch paired with some glittery heels. For tickets and further information please simply visit NYRP’s Hullween site.

Costumes: Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast at Tiffany's
Posted By: KK on 10/22/10 3:31 PM | Categories: Costumes
Create a classically chic Halloween costume by conveying Audrey Hepburn in the iconic film, “Breakfast at Tiffany’s” as Truman Capote’s character Holly Golightly. All you need is her signature LBD (little black dress) and a few accessories and your outfit is complete! Our look was inspired by the opening scene of the film, where quite literally Hepburn is seen having her breakfast (coffee cup in hand) outside of Tiffany’s on 5th Avenue. To complete the look string on this quintessential pearl necklace and studs and pin your hair up in a classic-chignon consumated with a diamond brooch at the top. Carry your coffee in a chic manner with opera-length gloves and a pair of Ray-Ban wayfarers. Suddenly the walk of shame seems rather stylish… extra props from us if you really do make it through the evening to have breakfast at Tiffany’s!

If you dare to enter the woods on Tuesday October 26, for the annual Central Park Conservancy Green Ball, Suzanne and Bob Cochran, King and Queen of the Druids will be holding court as creatures of the night unveil themselves at this ghastly black-tie gala featuring outrageous Halloween Costumes. Come out for a chilling good time in support of New York’s greatest green space as various celebrities will act as judges for the competitive costume contest with luxurious prizes donated by The Surrey Hotel. We thought it would be a hoot (no pun intended) to give a shout out to all Night Owls and get decked out in a fervor of feathers. We started off with this sultry and skintight Wolford black tube dress as a base for our plethora of plumage. Asos had an amazing selection of tufted accessories such as this grey feather cape, fingerless-feathery gloves and fluffy clutch. You will create quite the dramatic entrance in this plumed hat from Christine A. Moore. Sephora will be your fine-feathered-friend as they put together a make-up kit with everything you need to keep you looking fowl… not foul. Trust us, you will feel light as a feather in these decadent heels on the dance floor. For tickets and information please flock to the Central Park Conservancy Green Ball.

What to Wear: Downtown Theater The Divine Sister

Our friend and theater critic, Cindy Tripp reports on the best of the season’s plays like Charles Busch’s The Divine Sister at the Soho Playhouse. For the perfect “what to wear to a downtown theater” we went to Tory Burch‘s fantastic fall selection for this chic and timeless look that would be equally appropriate for drinks and dinner. We especially love the subtle chain detail and the classic cut on the black-leather Eder Jacket that suggest an updated Chanel. Cindy writes, “Having seen Charles Busch in action before, I was prepared to see an outrageous, funny, gender-bender experience and I wasn’t disappointed!“ To read the rest of Cindy’s pithy review, visit Broadway After Dark. For tickets and schedule, go to Soho Playhouse.

Costumes: Soho House Carnivale Halloween + Carmen Miranda
Posted By: KK on 10/21/10 3:42 PM | Categories: Costumes
On Saturday October 30, Soho House New York is throwing a Carnivale-themed Halloween Party and we thought we would channel a Chiquita-esque Carmen Miranda costume. The Brazilian born Hollywood actress was best known in the 1940s for her fruit hat which we conveyed with a bit of faux fruit such as cherry earrings and these oh-so-fun Vivienne Westwood heels and even a bunch of bananas. Sass it up in some samba style with this gold tube top, ruched skirt and a Hawaiian fabric bolero. Complete the look with a feathered headpiece, and floral accessories like this clip and this ruffled clutch. Don’t forget your jewels! As you can see Miranda always piled on the necklaces and bangles- mix it up with a bit of gold and lots of color.

Costumes: Morticia Addams
Posted By: KK on 10/21/10 1:16 PM | Categories: Costumes
We all like to get a little kooky on Halloween and none is creepier than the matriarch of the Addams family, Morticia Addams. Her vampish looks complete with pale skin and long black hair are totally fun to mimic. She loves to seduce her husband, Gomez Addams, by speaking french and can be found snipping the buds off of roses and arranging the stems in vases around their spooky mansion. Simply slip on this neck plunging dress, black wig, sexy thigh-high fish-nets and black lace pumps to get into the goth mode. We added some cobweb-like lace jewelry and a spiked bracelet with a rose petal clutch. Wednesday Addams claims that Morticia wears baking powder for make-up yet we threw in a Goth/Punk make-up kit with black lace nail stickers to complete the look. Don’t forget your pruning scissors to deadhead this “pleasant” bouquet of roses.
Left to Right: Black Wig ($8.70), Goth Make-Up Kit ($35), Suspender Fish-net Tights ($24), Topshop Cape Maxi Dress ($145), House of Harlow Lace Pumps ($198), Teardrop Earrings ($62), Topshop Red Ruffle Clutch ($62), Black Lace Nail Stickers ($14), Lace Cocktail Ring ($30), Cecilia de Bucourt Spike Bracelet ($121), Fake Red Rose Bouquet ($27.99)
Costumes: Andy Warhol + Edie Sedgwick
Posted By: KK on 10/21/10 12:41 PM | Categories: Costumes
Need a couples Halloween costume? We decided to create our costume duo around the theme Artist & Muse and none is greater (or more fun) than conveying the ultimate pair: artist Andy Warhol and American socialite Edie Sedgwick. These creative characters met in the swinging ’60s at Warhol’s studio dubbed The Factory. Channel Warhol with a bleached wig and white make-up and wear his signature black turtleneck and jeans look. Why not make a “happening” out of the evening and snap Polaroids of your friends- and whisper words of Warhol in their ears, “everyone will be famous for 15 minutes.“ Model the Mod-look to convey fashion icon Edie’s 60′s style. Pull on a pixie blonde wig with shoulder sweeping earrings, a suede mini dress, opaque tights and her statement leopard coat. To complete the look make sure to apply false eyelashes and loads of eyeliner. Blast some tunes from iconic Velvet Underground (after all the banana on their album cover was a Warhol!) and swing!
Left to Right: Adult Andy Warthol Wig ($25), Splendid Ribbed Cotton-blend Turtleneck ($50), Black Baxter Skinny Jeans ($80), Manic Panic Goth White Cream Foundation ($6), Holly Readers Glasses ($14), Nixon The Time Teller Watch ($60), Tallulah Frill Trainers Sneakers ($32), The Andy Warhol Diaries ($80) Polaroid Classic Camera ($169), Crayon in Black Jack ($12), Pearl Crystal Chandelier ($28), Suede Cutwork Dress ($360), Black Opaque Tights ($12), 60′s Pop Icon Wig ($7), Leopard Coat ($200), Eyelashes Strips ($15), Belle by Sigerson Morrison Suede High Heel Clogs ($240)
